Volunteer to Start Something
What if every child finished high school, went to college or university, got a job and gave back to our community? Wouldn't that be something?

Watch for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fredericton and Oromocto's  50th anniversary Gala event coming up September 28th 2017!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fredericton and Oromocto is celebrating 50 years of mentoring children. The Kiwanis Club of Fredericton, in honour of Canada's Centennial in 1967, established and supported a Big Brother Program " aimed at the recruiting of suitably qualified volunteer men willing to accept the responsibilities of Big Brothers through a planned program of friendship and guidance to all boys where the need exists"( from original press release in September 1966).

Over the years we have added Big Sisters, In School Mentors and Big Couples to our agencies programs in order to more effectively serve children needing a mentor.

We are planning a special event on September 28 to celebrate this important milestone  and would like to contact  former Bigs, Littles, Parents, Board Members, and Staff. Please send your telephone number and/or your email address to bigbrothersbigsisters.ca. Rhonda can also be reached at 458-8941.

In-School Mentoring Program Provides a Mentor and Friend

Mentored girls are two and a half times more likely than girls without a mentor to be confident in their ability to be successful at school while boys with a Big Brother are three times less likely than boys without a mentor to suffer peer pressure related anxiety, such as worrying about what other children think or say about them*.
